Why we chose this one?

The Kalmera 24” wine refrigerator is an impressive unit in a number of ways. The build quality is superb and incorporates both a security lock and a safety lock. This is in addition to a tough stainless steel frame. The best part is that none of this has required compromises in the aesthetic design of the unit. This is an under-counter unit that would look great in any residential or professional set up. The fact that it has also been designed to minimize noise only adds to its versatility.

For 24 inches, you get 5 elegant beech wood shelves, able to hold 46 bottles. These shelves, like the rest of the unit, are both attractive and sturdy; they are shelves that you won’t have any problem entrusting with your most expensive vintage. Stoppers at the sides of each shelf prevent them from accidentally slipping out of their frames and causing an oenological disaster. Each shelf also has a generous but unobtrusive foot that will easily prevent even the largest of bottles from ever slipping out.

Kalmera has put together an ingenious cooling system for the unit. A top-class compressor unit that employs the best vibration reduction gear we have come across in a unit of this size. The lack of noise and vibration further improve the versatility of the unit, and also help in open-plan apartments or homes where a noisy unit can be disturbing throughout the place.

You can easily alter the temperature by using the control panel on the front of the unit. For connoisseurs and professional establishments who need to keep their wines under very specific conditions, this is useful. For businesses, because setting the temperature is so easy, you can be sure that even your junior staff will be able to cope with it when you are not there to supervise.

Why we chose this one?

Edgestar’s 53 bottle wine cooler is a masterclass in the efficient use of space. Fitting an impressive 53 bottles across 6 shelves, plus space beneath the lower shelf, this is a great cooler for anyone who is looking to maximize storage space above all else. The shelves are wood-trimmed wire shelves that are easily removable, enabling you to store larger bottles if you are willing to sacrifice a small amount of space.

One of the most important features of any wine refrigeration unit is the digital controls. You want a control panel that is easy and intuitive to use, it shouldn’t be hard to figure out how to keep your wine at the optimal temperature. Thankfully, the Edgestar has an accessible and straightforward control system. The digital display is a little bit small for some people’s tastes, but it is simple enough to adjust.

In addition to offering precise temperature controls, Edgestar has also incorporated tinted glass into this unit’s design. UV rays can cause a wine to degrade and ultimately spoil. UV Rays also carry heat with them and more heat means more work for your wine cooler. By using tinted glass on the unit’s door, wine bottles can be kept clearly on display without risking their integrity.

The EdgeStar isn’t a perfect cooler. One of its biggest drawbacks is the noise it makes while operating. The acoustic dampening methods soften the machine’s vibrations a little, but it is too noisy for many home setups. It is also not a very aesthetically pleasing unit, although it is a highly functional unit.

Specifications

· Dimensions: 24.5 x 23.5 x 33.5 inches

· Weight: 99 lbs

· Capacity: 53

· Cooling Temperature: 40 - 65 F

· Auto defrost

· Tempered glass door

· Security lock

Pros

  • Removable slide-out shelves to accommodate different sizes of bottles
  • Rubber bushes to reduce vibration noise
  • The discreet digital display helps the unit to blend into its surroundings
  • Tinted glass ensures that your wine remains in the best condition possible
  • The Bordeaux shelf layout means you can store the maximum number of bottles
  • Doors can be reversed from left to right

Cons

  • The function is much better than the form. This is a great storage unit, but it doesn’t look very elegant
  • Difficult to see your wine labels while they are in the unit
  • The fan is noisy
  • The shelves don’t pull out very far, making it hard to read the labels on bottles
  • A heavy unit, so requires 2+ people to move it

Why we chose this one?

This is by far one of the best-looking wine coolers that we’ve come across. Despite being a big and sturdy unit, this wine cooler is eye-catching without sticking out like a sore thumb. The digital display on the front is prominent enough that it can easily be read but discreet enough that it doesn't spoil the view of the wine within. The upper and lower sections of the unit are properly separated so that they can reliably maintain separate temperatures. The upper unit runs at a lower temperature, the bulk of the space is given over to the lower unit, which keeps the wine in the 50 to 60 range.

A high-quality compressor system ensures both high energy efficiency and low noise. Keeping vibrations to a minimum is essential for units that are designed to house wine in the long-term. Even small vibrations can reduce the quality of the wine over time. The Phiestina wine cooler does an excellent job of keeping vibrations to a minimum.

We only have a few minor complaints about this unit. It is a testament to just how good it is that these tiny complaints stand out. First of all, the sliding mechanism on the shelves is sometimes a little stiffer than it should be. When you have valuable wines stored on them, you don't want to have to be pulling shelves out with great force. Wine also lies perfectly flat within the cooler, which is space-efficient, but means that you cannot see the labels while the wine is lying down.

Specifications

· Adjustable temperature settings

· Blue LED lighting

· Digital touch controls

· Dimensions: 23.4 x 22.4 x 33 inches

· Reversible door hinges

· Portable and compact, so can be moved anywhere

· Ideal for all sorts of beverages, including sodas and juices

· Weight: 102 lbs

· Capacity: 46

· Cooling Temperature: Upper: 40 - 50 F. Lower: 50 - 60 F

Why we chose this one?

This dual zone wine cooler is split vertically, rather than being separated into two sections horizontally as most other dual-zone coolers are. This small difference gives the unit a completely different aesthetic, one that we think works very well. Kalamera has added a number of awesome little design touches, many of them subtle, that add a whole new layer to the aesthetic of the unit. Everything, right down the subtle digital display on the front of the device, enhances the look as a whole. This is a cooler that feels like it has been made with genuine love and care.

A built-in alarm will alert you whenever the door is not closed properly, while a security lock ensures that you are able to keep your wines safe, whether you install the unit in your home or your business. Like Kalamera's other units, the high-quality compressor provides both reliable cooling and near-silent operation.

The only drawback to this cooler is that it is relatively expensive. In terms of both its form and function, we’re struggling to find anything to complain about.

Specifications

· Dimensions: 22.4 x 23.4 33.9 inches

· Weight: 126.7 lbs

· Capacity: 40

· Cooling Temperature: Upper: 40 - 66 F

· Built-in alarm if door isn’t closed properly

· French-style doors

· Hexagonal bolt security look

Why we chose this one?

The KRC-54SZB is a big unit that provides plenty of storage for commercial use. In spite of its size and advanced cooling system, the unit is energy efficient and runs very quietly. One feature that we really like about this unit is that it includes an embedded carbon filter. This filter ensures that every time you open the door, the air that is exchanged inside and outside of your cooler will be filtered. Your wine is kept safe by a safety lock, opened with a hexagon key.

In terms of aesthetics, the KRC-54SZB is an elegant looking unit, with an attractive stainless steel frame and a tempered glass door. It will make a welcome addition to any home or commercial premises.

Note that there have been some reports of unreliable temperature readings. The entire unit consists of a single zone; it isn’t subdivided into individual zones. If you need more precise temperature control, you might want to consider a dual-zone unit instead.
